A month of weekend warrioring

Dipping into a glacier melt river

Two days, a weekend, 59 hours. This was our time bracket to get out and explore the backcountry around Wanaka. The weekend warrior challenge...
So the past month we've been out and about, playing the weather and sampling the outdoors.
I'll have to admit, the weather wasn't always playing game for us to get out and play. A very soggy trip to Liverpool hut in an attempt on Mt Barff, enlightened us that an alpine start in dipping wet clothes doesn't tick our enjoyment boxes.

Lucky for us there's tons of things to do other than tramping. Hiring mountain bikes for the day we managed to sample 40k of Wanaka trails, from fast, sweeping, flowing fun to steeper, rootier, technical tracks. We also managed to get out and explore the more local trails and swimming areas after work and in between the longer adventures.

However after two and a half months of warrioring it out on the weekends, we've earned enough to go full-time adventurers again and say goodbye to the friends we've made in Wanaka.
As I've said to folks, 'I could spend a lifetime in Wanaka and live a good life'. Wanaka has filled my expectations of a New Zealand alpine town, which Queenstown seemed to miss and will remain a special place in my memory.
